Background
Veronica Monroe moved to Liberty City in 2020 from a small town in Alabama. She was looking to get out of the small town life, to experience life on a larger scale. Upon her flight in, she met Lisa Xavier, the two of them becoming fast friends. They both attained employment at Burgershot where they enjoyed meeting new friends as they learned about their new home.
However, Veronica felt that she wanted more of a challenge in her career, she soon found herself in the employ of the LCFD as an EMS. She thoroughly enjoyed helping her fellow citizens and eventually training new recruits. It was during her employment with EMS that she met Jack Hudson. They began their relationship as friends, spending countless hours sat atop the ambulance at Pillbox awaiting calls. It wasn’t long before they fell in love, eventually marrying on June 20th, 2021.
Veronica still felt like she wanted to do more to help her fellow citizens, and following her husband’s recent move to the Department of Corrections, she too enlisted as an officer. She moved through the ranks quickly, eventually reaching the rank of Sergeant and moving out to assist with patrol. She eventually moved over to CID as a detective, where she worked diligently on several high profile cases.
In April of 2022, Veronica & Jack relocated to Los Santos. Upon arrival, they both applied to join the LSPD. However, Jack never felt at home in Los Santos & shortly moved back to Liberty City. Veronica & Jack would spend time together via video calls & she would return to their old home as often as possible. Over time, the distance between them grew more prominent. Veronica’s new co-workers could tell something was wrong & began trying to get her to go out & maybe get out of the house, breaking away from her stagnant routine.
One of those coworkers was Detective Alex Blake. Blake took the time to check on Veronica, making sure she was looking after herself. Veronica arrived to work one afternoon, her eyes red & puffy, her skin pale & drawn. Immediately her friends knew something was wrong. After some coercion Veronica stated that she & Jack had gotten into an argument the night prior and she told him she wanted a divorce. Veronica was sent off duty & Blake went along with her to comfort her. They quickly went to Tequi-la-la and had several drinks. Veronica got very drunk very quickly, just trying to have some relief from her situation. During the outing, setting aside her inhibitions, Veronica kissed Blake. She apologized to him the next day, feeling she pushed herself on him. His only retort “But did you mean it, or was that just the booze talking?” “I meant it, but the drink gave me the confidence to act”. From that moment Veronica & Alex were inseparable. Alex was everything Veronica wanted & needed. He gave her the confidence she needed to file for divorce, which was finalized on December 8th, 2022.
Veronica & Alex were very happy, living their life together, working side by side. Veronica rising in rank to Lieutenant, Blake rising to George-1, the lead of the Gangs & Narcotics division.
On February 7th, after answering a call & returning back to MRPD, where they both noticed an absurd amount of Chevel Surges in the Jamestown area, Alex exited the vehicle and began searching the area, primarily focused on any cameras within the vicinity. Alex began acting strange, saying he was being watched. He then drove to Humane Labs where he jumped out and into the ocean, searching for “the wall”. Knowing that Alex could not swim, Veronica radioed in saying he was in trouble. She swam out & grabbed him just as he went under. Alex was rescued with no issues.
Or so they thought.
On the evening of February 22, 2023, Alex Blake purchased a Marquis sailboat & took off southbound from LSIA. After repeated attempts at contact, Veronica was informed of Alex’s disappearance. She went to his last location in hopes of finding him, but she found nothing. After two days, Blake washed up on shore & was found by the EMS and transported to Pillbox.
Despite the best efforts of the doctors at Pillbox, Blake was left in a vegetative state being kept alive only via artificial means with a near zero chance of recovery, thus leaving Veronica with the traumatizing decision of disconnecting the life support.
Following several days of mourning, Veronica began to pour herself into her work, focusing on extensive paperwork & prolonged shifts, anything to distract her from the guilt and pain. She poured over the medical reports, questioned possible witnesses, and even went to the extreme of consulting a psychic, anything to try to find the answers she so desperately needed. In the end, Blake’s death was ruled as misadventure, an accident. And though she began to move on, each day a little easier than the last, she always kept a photo of Blake near to her. A reminder of what could have been.
