Origins
Andre Immelmann was born in 1981 to Stoffel and Magdalena Immelmann, in the Sandhurst suburb of Johannesburg, South Africa. At the age of 6, looking to escape the city's racial tensions and violence, the Immelmanns relocated to Sydney, Australia.
An athletic, if not particularly intelligent child, Andre played rugby and Aussie Rules football through high school and college, before signing up with the Australian Air Force aged 18.
Military Career
Rising quickly through the ranks, Andre became a Flight Sergeant by 2003 when, along with NATO forces, Australia joined the US-led coalition to invade Iraq in the 2nd Gulf War. Andre was attached to the 5th Aviation Regiment, flying Chinooks in logistical manoeuvres and a Sikorsky S-70 for medevac and close air support. He was also formally trained as a combat medic and support gunner.
Andre would later go on to serve two further flight tours in Afghanistan as part of Operation Slipper. The horrors of war left indelible scars on his psyche as he saw several good friends killed and became desensitized to the actions he was forced to take. During his final deployment his close friend and fellow former cadet, Gabe "Gobbler" Bury, was shot down and killed in action by Taleban forces in an ambush. Following his third tour, Andre declined to extend his contract and relocated to Los Santos a couple of years later following a short but unsuccessful career as a private military contractor with Merryweather Security.
Time in Los Santos
Police Cadet
Shortly after moving to Los Santos, having failed to find a job that would allow him to stay out of uniform, Andre applied for a role with Mission Row Police Department. Following an interview with Veronica Hudson and Don Chester, he was accepted and quickly proved an efficient yet inflexible officer with a tendency to follow the rule rather than the spirit of the law. During his first few weeks on the force, he met Abigail Williams who made an off-handed joke in the cells that he "should take her out to dinner first" before processing her. Playing along, he gave her his phone number and told her to call him when she got out of Bolingbroke Penitentiary. Andre never heard back from Abi until much later in his career. During his time as a cadet and Officer 1st Class, Andre had multiple run-ins with The Lost MC, picking up 2 new scars from bullet wounds on his left shoulder and right thigh.
Officer and Detective
In a few short weeks, Andre made PO2. He felt somewhat frustrated watching another cadet, Margaret Doubtfyre, leapfrog him in the ranks due to what he perceived as favouritism. Initially planning on moving into Mission Row's air squadron, Andre instead joined Major Crimes as a detective deciding he had spent more than enough time in the skies.
It was during the early part of his time as a detective that he ran into Abigail Williams again, in a different guise as ‘Mia’ working in Bean Machine while hiding from The Cartel forces hunting her down. Striking up a friendship with ‘Mia’ briefly, Andre was shocked to learn that she was the fiery gun-runner from the jail cell a month earlier. As The Cartel's noose drew in around Abi, the pair of them spent some time together including a date on the south slopes of Mount Chiliad, overlooking the Alamo Sea. Knowing what might happen to his career if he continued to associate with a known serial felon and fearing becoming attached to someone just to watch them die again, Andre tried to cut the situation between himself and Abigail Williams off by handing her one last gift - a pair of emerald earrings - and telling her that from then on their relationship had to be strictly detective and informant.
Not long after this, Abi was lured to the Paleto Forest Sawmill by The Lost MC and gunned down becoming severely wounded and losing an eye in the process. Andre was one of the first police units on the scene, tearing his shirt up in a panic to try and stem the bleeding. Coming to a realisation, he confided in Smack that the idea of the last thing he said to Abi being that they could no longer even be friends was tearing him up inside. Over the next few days, he would reach out to Abi again in an attempt to repair their relationship. Speaking with Smack, he was made aware of Abigail Williams’ ‘Grand Plan’ to strike back against The Cartel. During this time, Abi handed the earrings he had gifted her back via James Kapow, saying he deserved to give them to someone who could make him their priority.
Paleto, and Resignation
Andre informed the rest of Mission Row that something was planned for the night of Monday 23rd January based on what Smack had told him. However, due to extenuating circumstances, only six officers were available on the evening including Immelmann, Jack Dryver, and James Kapow. Regardless, the small team suited up and slowly homed in on the meeting between Abi's crew and The Cartel in Paleto using speed camera data and regular Cartel movement patterns. As the shots started to ring out, the Mission Row fireteams moved into the city becoming embroiled in a 3-way gunfight with The Cartel forces aand various other criminals. As the police took multiple casualties, Andre rallied a pair of cadets and led a fighting retreat back to Paleto Bay Sheriff's Office while the injured officers were treated.
With the arrival of Atlas OBrien on the scene to reinforce the team, the Police Department squads attempted to push back out into Paleto to save civilians and locals but the two fireteams were swiftly pinned down and Atlas was wounded while acting as a supporting sniper. All appeared lost until Rizzle Johnson threw himself back into the fray having already extracted with the rest of Abi's crew. Unfortunately, The Cartel took Rizzle as a prize and, while Mission Row was able to escape the hell of Paleto in a commandeered fire truck, Rizzle paid with his life. After the engagement, whilst moving Rizzle's body back to the Los Santos Coroner's Office, Andre passed out from blood loss. Unbeknownst to his colleagues he had been shot twice in the stomach during the firefight, rupturing a kidney irreparably. He was placed on a minimum of one week's medical leave following surgery and sought psychiatric help from Pillbox staff in the aftermath as he could no longer hear a gunshot or a helicopter without suffering from traumatic flashbacks to the events of Paleto and his military career. After being discharged, he met with Abigail Williams at Bean Machine briefly, returning the emerald earrings to her and promising not to abandon her again with a kiss.
After Paleto, Andre and Abi renewed their relationship and Andre began to question whether he was cut out to continue as a detective when he could no longer bear to even carry a pistol. After returning to light duty to accompany Veronica Hudson, Ben Doon and James Kapow to a training academy for cadets, Andre tore some of his stitches in a vehicular accident. Walking back to Mission Row, he left his bloody shirt in the locker room and re-stitched himself up, leading Doon to question his mental capability and suggest that if he did not get himself looked at by Pillbox staff he would have Andre sectioned. Furious after some more time spent with Abi and Smack ended in a visit to Mission Row, Andre handed in his badge and cleared out his locker. His decision was made - his priority now was to save Abi and her friends from The Cartel forces massing again.
Parsons
In the days after Andre's resignation, Abigail Williams became increasingly stressed as more and more signs of Cartel activity in the city made it apparent that they were coming for her to finish their revenge for the death of Romeo, their leader. After Andre, Abi, Benny, Smack, Vic and David were accidentally outed as hanging out at FiveBall, the Cartel detonated a bomb, severely injuring Benny, with a sniper bullet wounding David causing Abi to recklessly chase after them before following their injured friends to Pillbox. After the police attempted to take away Abi's firearm, Andre, Abi and Smack became involved in a taser fight with the police ending in Abi being hospitalised. Becoming increasingly paranoid that The Cartel was about to attack, Abi tried to push Smack and Andre away, fleeing their attempts to help her insisting that she was doomed. After attacking Detective Jack Powers, Abi was taken from Pillbox to Mission Row and then jailed by the police who forgot her agreement to have Smack sent with her. At his insistence, Andre was sent to Bolingbroke Penitentiary alongside her; and the pair voluntarily checked into the Parsons Rehabilitation Center for Abi to recover from her breakdown. During their stay, The Cartel continued to harass the group, repeatedly flying low over the centre and detonating a bomb in the car park. During this time, Andre barely slept, sitting outside the centre with a shotgun loaned by Smack, keeping watch over the woman he loved.
Eventually, the group agreed that it was no longer safe for Abi to stay in treatment. Leaving, Abi, Smack and Andre all changed their look to try and avoid detection.
Death
After a few days in hiding, the threesome could bear it no longer and decided to make the most of the time they had left. Spending some time driving around the state sharing precious moments, Andre finally plucked up the courage to ask Abi if she had room in her life for a husband alongside her wife, Smack. Abi accepted a diamond ring from Andre on top of the crane at the Mile High Club construction site before the two parachuted down.
Later that day, the three of them were hanging out at the Del Perro Pier in the arcade. As they went to leave, the main road was blocked by two Bugstars vans. Andre pulled out a pistol and stepped forward expecting to fight off an ambush. Instead, the vans detonated, leaving him heavily burnt and in need of immediate treatment for shrapnel embedded in his chest. As he faded away on the operating table, a Cartel goon dressed as a surgeon pushed past Abi and Smack and, after ordering Dr Deidra Duke and Anna Vogel out, put a bullet in Andre's brain, killing him. Following their deaths later that day, Andre, Abi and Smack were all transported to Los Santos Coroner's Office, lying together for one last time before burial.
Relationships
Abigail Williams
Despite their initial encounter being more of a joke than anything, Andre became infatuated with Abi, to the point of being willing to risk his career for her. While Abi's polygamous lifestyle initially made him uncomfortable compared to past relationships, he soon came to the realisation that he would accept anything to be with her. In the end, his only thought was for her safety and happiness.
Sammy "Smack" Jeffries
Andre initially resented Smack, seeing them as the exact kind of loud, brash, unthinking career criminal he signed up with Mission Row to put an end to; as well as an obstacle between himself and Abi. Eventually, as he became more accepting of their situation, and Smack showed more willing to help him help them in the lead-up to Paleto, he came to see Smack as the steadfast, if volatile, friend and companion they were, and respected their side of the threesome's relationship, despite Smack never showing any real interest in Andre.
Atlas O'Brien
Initially good friends and colleagues as they came up through the ranks, Andre came to increasingly resent Atlas' loud mouthed nature and inability to keep quiet about Mission Row operations. Having learned of Atlas' apparent giving up of information on Abi and Smack to the Morettis, Andre came to the conclusion Atlas was a well-meaning but hopelessly out of his depth detective.
