Personality
Upon Jay's arrival in the United States, he was idealistic, carefree, outgoing and carried a confidence that tipped into cockiness.
A series of personal and professional setbacks - as well as life-changing events - have seen Jay develop a considerably more cautious and calculating personality, suffering bouts of defeatism and pessimism - but always determined to overcome these barriers for what he considers to be the greater good.
Jay has clung to a personal mission to help bring about societal change in a criminal state through the exposure of wrongdoing and encouragement of systematic reform.
Through documenting and reporting on the lives of others, Jay has unwittingly assimilated aspects of others' personalities into his own. This is most evident when Jay is backed into a literal or metaphorical corner - relying on his street knowledge gained from other parties on how to adapt and overcome desperate circumstances.
Background
Before Los Santos
Little is known about Jay Walker's life before leaving the United Kingdom, but he has admitted on more than one occasion to being a social media officer for a mid-tier football club. He once claimed to have "written the tweets" but did not have the authority to post them.
Arrival in San Andreas
Disheartened with his fledgling media career, Jay wrangled what money he could fly to America's west coast, dreaming of untapped notoriety.
Arriving in a city brimming with Scottish immigrants, Jay stumbled upon the local Weazel News branch with its monotone branding and insidious political leanings. Jay was inspired to create a counter publication - bold, vibrant and eye-catching. JayWalking News was born.
Unsure where to start - and having spent the rest of his money on a cheap Asbo, Jay scanned Twitter and learnt of a car meet at the local Observatory that evening. Taking the opportunity to meet some of the city's citizens and snap a few pictures, Jay edited the first edition of JayWalking in the passenger seat of his car on an entirely legitimate version of Photoshop.
The reception was positive. City citizens were surprised that a relatively small event had received 'news' coverage. Jay had his target audience and delved into the world of local news stories.
On an otherwise calm and pleasant summer evening, an unusual tweet changed the direction of Jay Walker's life and career. An anonymous account reported that there was "a body" in the trunk of a taxi cab outside of the local depot for Patterson's Cab Co. Jay travelled to the depot and found both a discarded cab crashed into a bush across from the depot and also a police officer investigating in the depot yard itself. The officer told Jay that he had been responding to the tweet but had found nobody. There had however been further reports of a taxi driver "with blue hair" attacking locals with a baseball bat. Against the officer's advice, Jay took it upon himself to find out more. This began the saga of Jay Walker vs Patterson's.
Outside of local reporting, Jay eventually took an interest in documentary filmmaking. Creating a short-lived documentary series titled Jay Walker's Weird Weekends, Jay followed two prominent figures in the City for several days, documenting their actions and questioning their backstories. Both completed documentaries were very successful but Jay's plans to create more fell through when the City was abandoned due to encroaching wildfires which combined to create a devastating inferno.
His contacts and business ambitions scattered to the wind, Jay was forced to sell his now-beloved Asbo and find a new place to call home.
Travelling the State
Trying to find a new home, Jay picked up a series of dead-end jobs in other cities. Whilst working as a pool cleaner to fund doomed vlogging ambitions, Jay was once again reunited with Oliver Patterson and the Taxi Bois. Together, trying to rebuild their statuses, the pair formed an unlikely and dangerous alliance - ultimately leaving Jay indebted to Patterson until the latter mysteriously disappeared to the surprise of the Taxi Bois.
During this time attempting to rebuild his journalism career, Jay inadvertently found himself in the employ of a criminal organisation using a local Weazel News branch as a front. Upon accidentally writing a negative story about a subordinate of his criminal shadow boss, Jay was stabbed and dumped in the ocean.
Unable to hold down a job long enough to afford a new Asbo, Jay resorted to a rusted Tornado and eventually a Brioso R/A financed by Oliver Patterson - which was immediately destroyed by the financier on a wild test drive and required towing back to the garage.
Los Santos
Early Days
In 2022, Jay arrived in his current home of Los Santos on an extended vacation - paid for by the remains of Patterson's loaned money and a new purple Asbo. He took up running, and yoga and endeavoured to build a healthier lifestyle before returning to the world of work. The tranquillity was short-lived, however, when Jay realised that he no longer had the money to leave. Forced into the world of manual labour, Jay took up a grape-picking role at a vineyard just outside of the city. Entrusted with also selling the final product, Jay attempted to offload his wares at the UwU Cafe. It was there that Momo Curie and Mel Rose convinced Jay to revive JayWalking News and return to the world of journalism.
Enthused, Jay scouted out locations from where he could work, eventually renting a small office in the Darnell Bros textiles factory. Armed with a second-hand laptop, a notepad and a camera, Jay hit the streets looking for local news stories as he did upon first arriving in San Andreas. He soon encountered a group of recent arrivals known as The Johnnys - striking up an unofficial commercial partnership with Johnny California (with JayWalking News receiving his Seal of Approval), and being forced on a "date" with Johanna Tennessee.
Laws and Royalty
A determination to stay out of the kind of trouble he found previously with the Patterson Cab Company, however, was short-lived. A few days into the job, Jay received an anonymous tip that there would be "fireworks" in the car part of the UwU Cafe late one evening. Jay ascended a nearby construction yard, where he was met by two masked men who forced him to film the upcoming proceedings. They informed Jay that their organisation had infiltrated most businesses in the city - from the street level to the high rises. Their motivations, however, were unclear. Observing the car park, Jay witnessed the explosive deaths of Mick Law and Daisy Law. The masked men fled the scene, leaving Jay to escape with the footage undetected.
At Pillbox Hospital, Jay met Johnny Kentucky and Johnny Five. Whilst the former was mourning the loss of The Laws, the latter questioned Jay as to his knowledge of the events that took place. Five informed Jay that these masked individuals were a Russian cabal known as The Royals. Following a close call with the masked men in an isolated parking lot, Jay and Five went their separate ways before Jay was picked up by The Royals in a black SUV and forced to play hostage for them during a bank robbery on the Great Ocean Highway.
Jay played down his prior knowledge of The Royals when questioned by the police on the scene, though the footage he possessed of the deaths of Mick and Daisy Law would eventually be handed over to Don Chester after its existence was leaked - presumably by The Royals themselves.
His continued loose association with The Royals led Jay to have an illegal firearm for self-defence and also alerted Jay to the existence of a Mexican Cartel with ties to Los Santos. This knowledge spooked Jay, and his discomfort was not aided upon having his car forcibly stopped on the road near Mirror Park. He was confronted by unknown masked individuals using voice changers to ensure he would not write about them or cover their existence in any way. Although he could not confirm it then, he had just met leading figures of the Cartel.
Ballas
Jay's Asbo is attached by the Ballas
Over a turbulent fortnight, Jay clashed with the local Ballas street gang due to his choice of purple clothing and synonymous purple Asbo. Jay was robbed, taken hostage and beaten on numerous occasions - as well as having his Asbo damaged through baseball bat attacks and gunfire alike. Jay doubled down, choosing not to back down over his personal and professional use of the colour purple. He organised a festival weekend in association with the UwU Cafe in which Los Santos citizens were invited to wear purple with pride in direct response to the Ballas - against the advice of the local police department.
Only at the end of the weekend did the event turn sour. When Jay was left to walk the streets alone, he was ambushed by the Ballas. Buoyed by his propaganda throughout the weekend, Jay did not back down when they once again threatened to remove his clothes. As a result, Jay was grievously wounded by a gunshot wound. Although this forced Jay to relent during his recovery, this Ballas set disbanded soon after, bringing their conflict with Jay to a close.
Past Transgressions
Recovering from his injuries sustained during the purple festival, Jay's recovery was interrupted by a series of very unwanted phone calls. One by one, whilst on a casual drive through the city centre, Jay was called by Hugh Mann, Terry Bull, JayJay Jamieson, Jasmine Miller and Max Jazzhand. Very soon, it was hard to ignore a sudden increase in the presence of taxi cabs roaming the streets. Jay did not reply to any of the calls he received and opted to go about his business feigning ignorance.
During an otherwise innocent conversation at the UwU Cafe, Jay inadvertently found himself in the middle of a related dispute between Johnny Five and Johanna Tennessee after the latter complimented Jay on his appearance. Five went off the grid and at Johanna's request, Jay searched the city and the surrounding countryside looking for him. Eventually, he was summoned by Five to a pier off the Western Highway. Although their conversation was momentarily interrupted by Five catching a dolphin with his modest fishing line, the two eventually parted cordially - but Five entrusted Jay with delivering a "parting" gift to Johanna.
Whilst leaving the scene, Jay's Asbo was tailed by a taxi cab. Parking up, Jay realised the driver was Max Jazzhand. Worse still, the passenger was Oliver Patterson. Jay took an opportune moment to take off, leading to a high-speed chase down the highway and onto an off-road. Jazzhand collided with Jay's Asbo, flipping it and causing damage to both vehicles. Jay crawled out of his car, coming to a stop in time to see the feet of Patterson - who lambasted both Jay and Max, before carrying the former back to the cab. Patterson warned Jay against visiting his new depot in the city and discarded his bruised fare in an alleyway - by the refuse bins.
Death of The Hero
Having witnessed a police shootout near UwU, Jay stumbled upon a wounded Spike Spiegal. The stricken detective was rushed to Pillbox in the back of Jay's Asbo (accompanied by the Sonic R soundtrack on the radio) and as a result, MRPD chose to reward Jay for his good deed as the inaugral (and only) inductee in to the Tenfur's Members roll of honor. At a ceremony at City Hall, Jay was awarded $50,000 much to the annoyance of various citizens, former acquaintances and public enemies. This event triggered a chain reaction Jay couldn't have foreseen.
Oliver Patterson published an opinion piece decrying Jay's public honoring. Entitled "Death of the Hero," the piece spun Jay's attempts at exposing the criminal deeds of the Patterson Cab Company as a pattern of serial harrassment and derangement. A particularly colourful image accompanying the piece portrayed Jay as the devil.
Upon seeing the article, Jay decided to strike back through similar means. However, having failed to win the word of words against Patterson in numerous cities prior, Jay changed tact. He wrote a lengthy rebuttle to the Patterson article, framing their direct conflict as a misunderstanding, celebrating Patterson's successful business nouce and pinning any accusations of wrongdoing on a select nummber of his employees and taxi drivers. Thus began Jay's new campaign to pick off the Taxi Bois one-by-one around Patterson. However, unbenownst to Jay, Patterson's article had only been the starting point of a wider plan.
On an otherwise inconspicuous day, Jay was called by Dick Richards and invited to the arcade on Vespucci Pier to catch up on recent events. However, Dick had been enlisted by an alliance of Patterson and Benny Silver to entrap Jay. Whilst in the arcade, Patterson - along with Travis Bickle and JayJay Jamieson - broke in to Jay's Asbo and planted compious amounts of narcotics. The next day, when parked up at the UwU Cafe, Jay was taunted by Benny whilst MRPD's Officer Lawson responded to an anonymous tip. Jay happily obliged with the officer's request to search his trunk - where the narcotics presented themselves. With Patterson and the Taxi Bois - along with Benny - positioned to record and publicise the event, Jay was arrested and taken to Mission Row for questioning.
Blindsided by this attempt to publicaly disgrace him, Jay turned back on to the offensive. However, there was a further shock to come when Oliver Patterson announced his candidacy for Mayor of Los Santos.
Boxing with God
With Patterson on the ballot against longtime frenemy George Sinclair, Jay had unintentionally allowed himself to be boxed in to a corner. Having now directed his ire towards Patterson's employees and shielded the man himself, Jay was limited in his ability to campaign against Patterson's mayoral campaign - nor could he endorse Sinclair following revelations about his involvement with The Lost MC. As it became increasingly likely that Patterson would emerge victorious (in no small part due to his previous dealings with elements of the city's criminal underworld), Jay talked himself in to a new strategy, one that would require patience and a lot of luck.
Jay believe that with Patterson in public office, he would be more vulnerable to exposure in the eyes of the law than ever before. He would be forced to face questions from the press in a manner in which he could previously avoid (one way or another). Jay's allies were unconvinced by this chain of thought. Nevertheless, time was short to devise a more convincing counter-play and sure enough, Oliver Patterson was sworn in as Mayor in August 2022.
Almost immediately, Jay's plan bore fruit. During a routine visit to Apex Autos, Jay - and his Asbo - were harrassed by longtime Patterson employee Terry Bull. Ensuring to record evidence of the encounter, that night's installment of JAYWALKING - which coincidentally reported on Patterson's victory - exposed Bull's action to city citizens. In response, Patterson felt he had no choice but to suspend Bull from both the company and his potential role at City Hall in one fell swoop. As a result, Bull left the city. This was a major victory for Jay. Perhaps the most decisive since his investigation in to Patterson's Cab Company began.
On a night following Bull's expulsion, Jay was on his way back to Alta St. apartments when he spotted Patterson's distinctive Z-Type leaving the car park. Jay opted to drive on, but the car followed with increasing speed. On and on this went until Jay was out of city limits and heading towards north towards Sandy Shores with Patterson seemingly in chase. Reaching the shores of the Alamo Sea, Jay tried to give Patterson the slip by circling around an isolated cabin in a rocky area of the bay. Jay miscalculated the turn and flipped his Asbo, rendering it immobile. He scurried from the car and hid in nearby bushes. Jay needed backup and evidence of this harrassment from the Mayor himself. Knowing that he was no friend of Patterson, Jay called George Sinclair for aid.
Patterson's Z-Type arrived on the scene of the accident, slowly patrolling the area while Jay remained hidden. The car eventually appeared to retreat back towards Sandy Shores just before Sinclair arrived. Jay announced himself and got in to Sinclair's car. In his haste to leave the area, Sinclair crashed his car through a chain-link fence covered in a tarp. Remarkably, Mayor Patterson was waiting on the other side of the fence. Despite Jay encourging Sinclair to leave, the failed Mayoral candidate instead left the car. After very short pleasentries, Sinclair presented a taser and incapacitated Patterson.
Sinclair returned to the car and sped off. Jay was in shock at what had just happened, and had a sinking revelation. His car was still at the scene. Jay encouraged Sinclair to turn around so that they could retrieve the Asbo together. But by the time they reached Sandy Shores, police sirens were echoing in the distance. Before long, they were sighted by an approaching cruiser and a chase ensued. A triumphant sounding Patterson phoned Jay, stating that the journalist's arms were "too short to box with God." As Sinclair approached the dam, multiple police cruisers in tow, Patterson made a similarly mocking phone call to him. Jay made a split second decision on the dirt road descending back down in to the city. He had to play the victim. He wished Sinclair good luck, threw open the passenger door and dived out of the car. He rolled and scrurried down the banking to the shallow stream below. It was there that the police caught up with him.
With Sinclair's fate unknown, Jay was once again taken to Mission Row for questioning. The arresting officers were sympathetic to Jay's version of events, and asked him to plan out the route on which Patterson had chased him out of the city. However, it would be to no avail as CCTV coverage of the route was practically non-existant. Nevertheless, an investigation was opened an the search for George Sinclair was underway.
